Make Up in Film
Being asked to pick 5 films that I love and write about them is like trying to decide my favourite nieces and nephews!
I have given it my best shot though and chosen a few of the best!
So my first is Anjelica Huston in The Witches (1990). The film is one of my all time favourites even to this day as a 23 year old! The make up artist for the main high witch was Steve Norrington who created the silicone head which was moulded and then styled to be worn by Anjelica. The character is so ugly it's great!!!
My second choice is Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice (1988). The character Beetlejuice was created by the incredible Ve Neill. Beetlejuice such a iconic and awesome movie it's got to be on most peoples top 100 movies, and if it's not, your no well!
Ve Neill is an amazing make up artist and has done the effects for movies such as Hunger Games and Batman, each as brilliant as the last. She was also the make up artist on the next movie on my list which is Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands (1990).
Edward Scissorhands is an all time classic movie! Johnny Depp plays the character so well - one of the only characters he played well :P - and really makes you sympathise with him.
The make up is quite basic compared to the others she has done but is super effective for the role.
Number 4 is Charlize Theron is Monster (2003).
The make up artist tasked with making Charlize look like her character Aileen Wuornos was Toni G. Toni had to make Charlize look as close to the Aileen as possible as this movie is based on the life of series killer Aileen Wuornos. Charlize had to wear false teeth, layers on latex and prosthetics and gain weight for her role.
My last movie is the ultimate scary movie, The Exorcist (1973).
The artist who created this character was Richard Emmerson aka Dick Smith aka The Godfather of Makeup. Dick truly surpassed all expectations of a scary character in this movie as the character and the makeup scared people through out the world and still does to this day. - To be honest I was even sacred just looking. The pics :( and I'm home alone :'( waaaaaa!!!!
Wigs in TV/Film
Without a doubt one of my favourite Tv shows that wigs are widely used in is Still Game.
Wigs are used within Still Game to completely transform the characters in to hilarious wee old men.
The wigs used are soft front wigs which gives them a much more realistic look.
My second choice for wigs is Game of Thrones.
As with my first choice Still Game, Game of Thrones uses wigs on the majority of their female characters to make them look more fitting to the time period it is set.
My final choice for wigs is Mrs Doubtfire.
The wigs used on Robin Williams in Mrs Doubtfire are soft front wigs as they are more realistic. The wig was used on his character to transform him in to an elderly lady, Mrs Doubtfire.
Wigs in Theatre
I am totally out of my comfort zone talking about theatre shows as I have never seen one or even bothered to take a slight interest in any but I have done my research and have come up with a couple of shows.
The first is Le Miserables which use wigs on some of their characters to help get them looking said they are from the right period. In the time frame that Le Mis is set it was common practice for sailors and captains to wear wigs which would show their wealth.
Le Mis is currently showing at The Queens Theatre London and the wig mistress is Melanie Oakley.

My second choice for wigs in theatre is the West End Production of Cats.
Wigs are used on most of the characters in Cats to complete there overall look of a Cat. The wigs are generally hard front as they need to be seen from the back of the room. In this production the wigs are heavy and messy. The wig mistress on this set is Linzi Bowen.
Cats will showing at the London West End from the 6th of December 14.
